For this project, I illustrated a saddle-stitched comic book, led the design direction of a multi-spacial exhibition, created posters and installation graphics, as well as developed various sections of a digital learning platform on Scalar. The exhibition, Images and Imaginings of Internment is meant to educate the public on the significance of the Japanese incarceration within US history through the lens of both wartime and contemporary comics.

The comic book was created with the intention to be handed out at junior high and high schools—to be used for exhibition advertising, and to encourage a more creative learning environment in the classroom. The comic book would also provide fundamental insight into the Japanese American incarceration, which may inspire young students to pursue further education in the field. Contemporary and historical Japanese American artists informed design strategies and solutions that optimized both the educational and aesthetic elements of the graphics as well as exhibit design.
My role for this project was the lead designer and creative strategist. On top of creating the exhibit brochure and advertising media, I also developed the digital exhibition platform, as well as created and curated the graphics of the physical exhibition on Chapman’s campus.
